In 2008-2009, the Worcester Academy Environmental Hall of Fame was conceived of and brought into effect by the Environmental Club and Director of Sustainability. The first three inductees, George Delaney, Don Irving, and Elizabeth Bowles have each made profound lifestyle choices that lessen their personal environmental impact while inspiring the rest of us to do the same. Over the 5+ years that Mr. Delaney and Mr. Irving have been riding their bikes to school, they have reduced approximately 11,000 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions in addition to reducing smog forming compounds such Nitrogen Dioxide and carcinogenic hydrocarbons .
