1. Daylighting and shutting all lights off when not needed
2. Closing windows, doors, and double doors (indoors)
3. Shutting down/unplugging all electronics when not use
4. Recycling and placing trash in the proper receptacles
5. Turning down thermostats a few degrees (raising temp a few in the summer)
6. Carpooling when feasible
7. Taking only what I can eat and composting the rest
8. Printing double-sided, avoiding all unnecessary print outs
9. Avoiding use of disposable cups
10. Driving a few mph slower
The Green Cup All-Star Pledge
I pledge to meet the demands of the Green Cup Pledge as well as strive to practice the following:
1. Using no campus bottled water of any kind; use only water from the Dining Hall/ Megaron
2. Increasing of carpooling, public transportation, walking, and/or biking
3. Driving at or under the speed limit, keeping tires inflated, car tuned up
4. Purchasing local food (milk, eggs, meat, produce)
5. Learning more about the art of “stacations”
6. Adding my own steps to this pledge
7. Purchasing 50-100% of renewable energy credits www.massenergy.com/Options.html
8. Learning more about how one or more items that I use frequently impact the environment
9. Considering the purchase of carbon offsets: one of many vendors click on NativeEnergy
10. Signing up for a home energy audit through National Grid (call 1-800-632-8300) and using the following sites on home energy savings:

Curious about why not using bottled water helps? Because of the bottles or the processing??? And does that mean not using the large water dispensers as well? Also, what is a stacation? Does that mean not flying/driving somewhere and using fuel?
Thanks for your help.

“Stacations” aim to make the most of living/staying at home during what would have otherwise been “vacation” time.
Bottled water does include the large dispensers. Worcester has excellent – highly filtered- tap water and costs less than 1/2 a cent per gallon, as compared to $1/gallon or more for bottled. As well it is grossly wasteful and inefficient to take a relatively abundant and vital regional resource, water, and put it in small petroleum-dependent (10’s of millions of gallons of oil -or fossil fuel equivalent- each year) that get delivered in a massively decentralized manner (many trucks, many bottles, many delivery’s, and then wasted at a rate of 30 million + bottles/day (thrown away for landfill or incineration).

I take the Green Cup Pledge.
The environment is the only thing we can try to fix that will effect the world as a hole. The only thing we can’t buy is time. We, as a country, can try to feed and aid as many countries as we can, but by helping the environment we can help save the planet as a whole…for, after all, its one of the few things we all have in common.
